October is Exercise is Medicine® Month, and we’re encouraging everyone to make movement a daily priority! 

Why?

  • Just 30 minutes of activity a day can boost energy, reduce stress, and improve overall health.
  • Exercise lowers the risk of chronic disease and helps you feel your best every day.

Throughout the month, we’ll be offering:

  • Fitness workshops
  • Group walks and activity challenges
  • Tips for moving more at home, work, or school
  • Your prescription for health is simple: MOVE MORE.

Exercise is Medicine® Walking Challenge

This October, join us for the Exercise is Medicine® Walking Challenge! The goal is simple: walk 10,000 steps a day for the entire month.

What's Happening in October

Week 1 A “POUND” of Cure Wednesday on October 1st, @4:45pm in the Recreation and Fitness Center MAC Court. This event is a large community-based POUND class led by certified POUND instructors.
Week 2 Dr. Akil speech on Tuesday, October 7th at Merrill Hall B10 at 5:30pm. In addition visit this link for UREC’s StressLESS offerings from October 6th-9th, centered around holistic wellness for stress management.
Week 3 Feathers of Steel: Gamecock Strength Training on Monday, October 13th at 4:45pm in the Recreation and Fitness Center MAC Court.
Week 4 Fit in a Flash: Quick & Efficient Workouts from October 20th-23rd at 4:45pm in Kennamer Fitness Studio Room 122.
Week 5 Walk This Way - promote walking, NO Locomotion. We’ll also be hosting a campus walk on October 27th at 4:45pm beginning in front of the Recreation and Fitness Center.
