Faculty FAQs

Instructions for graduate students in courses using e-materials are being developed and will be posted to this page soon. If the faculty prefers that the JaxBooks LTI not show up in their Canvas course instructions to enable or disable the JaxBooks LTI can be found on the Faculty Tutorials page within the Textbooks accordion section.

Note: Graduate/Doctoral students will be eligible for JaxBooks starting Fall 2026.

Digital course material mapped for delivery via the JaxBooks LTI is managed by Barnes & Noble. Please contact Kristi Webster ( KWebster@bncollege.com ) at the JSU Campus Bookstore if there is an issue with the textbook shown in JaxBooks for your course. If you need instructions to enable or disable the JaxBooks LTI, please visit the Faculty Tutorials page and review the the Faculty Tutorials page within the Textbooks accordion section.

Some of the publisher e-materials are still being updated manually, and those changes will not be visible until the next day. Please check again on Sunday, when those changes should be completed and visible. If other materials (not e-materials) are problematic in the bookstore portal, please contact Kristi Webster directly at kwebster@bncollege.com

No. If the instructor requested physical materials for the students (even if there is a digital option), the digital version will not be linked in Canvas as the students will get physical copies with JaxBooks. If the instructor has requested digital over physical materials, then the materials will be linked in Canvas.

All undergraduate students opted into JaxBooks will access digital course materials through the JaxBooks LTI enabled in all Canvas courses. If it is not enabled, instructors can enable it by following the instructions provided in the Faculty Tutorial within the Textbooks accordion section. Students who lose access to e-materials beginning September 11 will be prompted to purchase the access that had been available. This option appears when the opt-out period ends.

Yes. JaxBooks will still work for Fall 2025 courses and forward, regardless of when books were adopted.

No, there are no restrictions on the course materials you select for your course. All course materials, from any publisher, in your preferred format, are included in the program.

Publishers do not have the ability to provide all the different formats of content that faculty request at the lowest price possible. Jax State has contracted with Barnes & Noble exclusively to provide textbooks on campus.

If a faculty member changes their course material adoption, faculty should notify the bookstore of the new adoption, and the bookstore will work to ensure students receive the corrected course materials.

The bookstore is committed to helping as they normally do in those situations. We will just work to update the textbook adoption platform with the new materials.

Faculty contribute to the success of the program by submitting course materials selections to the bookstore by the adoption deadline for each semester:

  • On or before October 1 for the spring semester
  • On or before March 1 for the May and summer terms
  • On or before March 15 for the fall semester.

Another important contribution is the faculty’s work to adopt affordable course materials, so that the savings is passed along to the student. The JaxBooks rate is calculated annually, based on pricing of adopted materials the previous year. When faculty adopt inexpensive materials, like OER, they help keep the JaxBooks rate low.

If you believe you have special circumstances with one of your courses, you are welcome to share that information at the link below, and we will research a solution, so that the launch of JaxBooks goes smoothly for your students. Please complete this three-item form

The BNC Instructor Portal is accessible within each Canvas course via the JaxBooks navigation link. Once the system loads, an instructor can click Instructor Portal to obtain access. This is not a universal link to be added to the MyJaxState Portal, but rather accessed via each Canvas course.
