The JaxBooks Program is launching Fall 2025. This program provides access to all course materials without the need to shop around before the first day of class. JaxBooks is a textbook rental program. Enrollment in this program is automatic, and the cost is $23 per credit hour per semester/term. Students can buy their rented textbooks at a reduced price at the end of the semester/term.

Jax State students participating in JaxBooks will:
Register for Classes
Upon registering for courses, you will be automatically enrolled into the program. Once you've successfully selected your courses, the bookstore will start preparing your order.
Verify Your Order
Starting 30 days before the first day of classes, you will receive an email to verify your order and select your fulfillment preference.
Receive Your Textbooks
An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within your Canvas.
Students may return the book to the Jax State Bookstore within 48 hours of dropping a course. If a student drops a class and enrolls in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.
The program will be handled in the same fashion as all other tuition and fees, and refunds will be processed in accordance with existing deadlines and procedures. However, if a student picks up their course materials but does not return them within 48 hours of dropping the course, they will owe the cost of the textbook. This resource is for undergraduate students remaining opted into the JaxBooks Program, dual enrollment students remaining opted into the separate First Day for Dual Enrollment program, and graduate/doctoral students remaining opted into the separate First Day for Graduate and Doctoral program.
Instructors must still configure certain elements appropriately in their courses, such as enabling the correct publisher LTI or publishing the module section and other pages within the modules to ensure publisher provided content is available to the students.
If you opt out of the JaxBooks Program and lose access to course materials in Canvas, you will be responsible for purchasing the required materials at the retail price—either through the JSU Bookstore, from a publisher or retail outlet, or online at jsu.bncollege.com.
To purchase online:
After placing your order using your Jax State email address, you will receive access to the required course content. Access to your course materials may require an access code from the publisher to be entered into the publisher's courseware in your Canvas course, or access may be provided directly from the publisher or book vendor. Methods vary depending on the publisher and vendor. You may need to ask your instructor for assistance. The charge for these textbooks will not be added to your student account because you will purchase them independently.
To change your opt-out status and opt back into Jax Books, please click the Opt-Out Button on the the current website or follow the instructions found in your opt-out confirmation email. You should see a way to opt in from there. Please note you must make your final selection by WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10.
REMINDER: You will NOT lose access to your digital materials if you have selected JaxBooks and still have a student account balance. Please reach out to sm278@bncollege.com with any questions.
While this program is expected to ease the process of obtaining your required course materials and lower your overall costs, we also understand this program may not meet the needs of each student. If you do not want to participate in JaxBooks, you will need to opt out every semester.
Students have the option to opt out of this program each term by visiting the Opt Out site. The opt-out period for each semester is open 30 days prior to the first day of class and ends on the last day to add a course. Once opted out, you will not receive access to your materials and will be responsible for purchasing all required materials on your own.
If you do not opt out of the program each semester, your student account will be charged. Please reach out to sm278@bncollege.com with any further questions. The opt-out email you will receive is your confirmation for the removal of charges by the university.To change your opt out status and opt back into the JaxBooks program, please follow the link in your opt-out confirmation email received from the Jax State Bookstore or by visiting the Opt-Out page.
Students should allow one to two business days for the opt-out to be reflected on their account.

JaxBooks is applied to the student account when tuition and fees are billed. If you are enrolled in a payment plan and either add or drop a course or opt-out of JaxBooks, the payment plan will recalculate the amount due within the following 24 hours and notify you via email of the change.
Student access to physical materials will depend on the pickup method selected.
Orders cannot be processed until you have verified your order. If you have already done so, please reach out to the bookstore at sm278@bncollege.com. Be sure to include your order number and first and last name so they can check on the status of your order.
Digital course materials do not require you to select a delivery preference. Your digital materials will be available in university's LMS (Canvas) when the instructor publishes the course or by the first day of class. At that time, you will also receive an email about your digital materials.
Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.
Yes! Students are offered an option to buy the textbook at the end of the semester. Students would work directly with the bookstore if they wish to purchase.
Yes! Just use the return shipping label available online. You can print it as often as you like, but you can only use it once. If you are returning multiple books, please put them in one box and use one shipping label. You can also just drop off your books at the JAX STATE Bookstore.
You will be responsible for paying the bookstore a replacement fee, and the book will be yours to keep. The Bookstore will accept late returns, but there may be a processing fee associated with an overdue book.
No, there are no restrictions on the course materials you select for your course. All course materials, from any publisher, in your preferred format, are included in the program.
If a faculty member changes their course material adoption, faculty should notify the bookstore of the new adoption, and the bookstore will work to ensure students receive the corrected course materials.
The bookstore is committed to helping as they normally do in those situations. We will just work to update the textbook adoption platform with the new materials.
Faculty contribute to the success of the program by submitting course materials selections to the bookstore by the adoption deadline for each semester:
Another important contribution is the faculty’s work to adopt affordable course materials, so that the savings is passed along to the student. The JaxBooks rate is calculated annually, based on pricing of adopted materials the previous year. When faculty adopt inexpensive materials, like OER, they help keep the JaxBooks rate low.

The BNC Instructor Portal is accessible within each Canvas course via the JaxBooks navigation link. Once the system loads, an instructor can click Instructor Portal to obtain access. This is not a universal link to be added to the MyJaxState Portal, but rather accessed via each Canvas course.

Publisher courseware may be delivered in one of three different methods in First Day Complete (First Day 2.0 – branded JaxBooks).
