Teacher Candidates
Practicum Experience
Throughout your program, you will conduct field experiences called practicums. These practicum field experiences are attached to certain courses. The Office of Clinical Experiences will coordinate a placement with one of our school partners in a P-12 classroom. The purpose of these field experiences is to serve as your ongoing field-based contact in diverse P-12 schools as part of the instructional program. There will be observations, study of school situations, assisting in instruction, and supervised teaching that will contribute to your understanding and competence of your education field.
Internship Experience
The student teaching program is committed to securing quality internship placements with master cooperating teachers. This endeavor is made possible by establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with local schools.
The collaborative relationship between the JSU College of Education and Professional Studies and local school districts allows for a unified educational experience where theory meets practice in an inquiry-focused and standards-based internship experience.
The teaching internship is a culminating experience in all initial teacher certification programs. The full-semester internship is intended to provide an authentic and immersive experience where interns progressively assume teaching responsibilities.
