The Shakespeare Project was founded in 2017 in Anniston, Alabama, the original home of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The mission continues to be to promote an understanding of performing arts and of Shakespeare in high school literature curriculum by presenting free programming and professional productions of the playwright’s works to all, regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic status. All performances and programs are free to the general public and surrounding schools. Our shows are abridged to only 90-minutes and conceptualized with the community’s comprehension in mind. This show is infused with folk and jazz music, led by Feste and accompanied by acapella vocals from the remaining cast. Preference is given to teaching artists, who are willing to work alongside and mentor students, who are also strongly encouraged to audition.
