MSW Field Education Admission
Traditional Full-Time Program (570)
Field instruction in the two-year full-time curricula consists of two block field instruction courses (average of 32 hours per week), one in the foundation year, and one in the concentration curriculum, which all students take in the final semester they are enrolled in the program. Both foundation and concentration require 450 hours of field instruction. Students must complete the CSWE required minimum total of 900 hours in field instruction.
Advanced Standing Program (571)
Field instruction in the advanced standing curricula consists of one block field instruction course. Students are required to complete 450 hours (an average of 32 hours per week) and attend a biweekly seminar. Students must complete the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) required minimum total of 900 hours of field instruction prior to obtaining an MSW degree. The Coordinator of Social Work Field Education will require documentation of BSW field hours. Students may be required to complete additional hours to meet this standard.
Prior to the semester of anticipated Field Placement, students must attend an informational meeting where they will receive an application for Field Instruction. The student will complete the application and return it to the Coordinator of Social Work Field Education. The application must be approved by the Admissions Committee before a student can participate in Field Instruction. Following the informational meeting, students must meet individually with the Coordinator of Social Work Field Education to discuss various placement opportunities. After reviewing potential placements, students will be referred to agencies where they will be interviewed regarding the placement. Following the pre-placement interview with the agency, the student, the Agency Field Instructor, and the Coordinator of Social Work Field Education will make a determination as to the appropriateness of the placement
