CSWE Accreditation
The Department of Social Work at Jacksonville State University is fully accredited(BSW-1992 and MSW-2020) by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the officially recognized accrediting organization for social work programs. Under this accreditation, our program practices competency-based education with an emphasis on the current 2022 CSWE competencies listed below.
Competency-Based Education
Competency-based education is an outcome-oriented approach to curriculum design. The goal of the outcome-oriented approach is to ensure that students can demonstrate the integration and application of the competencies in practice. In the EPAS, social work practice competence consists of nine interrelated competencies and component behaviors that consist of knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes.
Each competency describes the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes that make up the competency at the generalist level of practice, followed by a set of behaviors that integrate these components. These behaviors represent observable components of the competencies, and the descriptions that precede them represent the underlying content and processes that inform the behaviors.
THE 2022 CSWE Competencies are as follows (for a more in-depth review of the competencies please see: CSWE 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards)
