ROTC Alumni Chapter Scholarships for 2023-2024
Apply for the following scholarships as well as other university scholarships by using the JSU on line Scholarship Application. The application period opens September 1 of each year and closes on February 1. Applicants must apply online through JSU's Office of Financial Aid.
Scholarships are awarded to deserving students and potential cadets or current cadets on the path to serve as an Army Officer upon graduation and commissioning. Selection is made by the JSU Professor of Military Science who can conduct a selection board of the cadets who have applied for these scholarships. If necessary, an “order of merit” list is established and the scholarships are assigned against the sequence of the list
Anniston Elks Lodge #189 ROTC Scholarships: The lodge established these scholarships for deserving or potential ROTC cadets. Scholarships are awarded to deserving students and potential cadets or current cadets on the path to serve as an Army Officer upon graduation and commissioning. Selection is made by the JSU Professor of Military Science.
Belser (Captain Donnie R.) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by ROTC Class of 2001 in memory of Donnie Belser, ROTC ’01, who was killed in action on February 10, 2007, while serving in combat in Iraq.
Blount (Second Lieutenant Matthew A.) Memorial ROTC Scholarships: Established by Melinda Blount in memory of her husband Matthew Blount (JSU ’11; ROTC Cadet and Direct Commission USAR ’12).
Boozer (James and Ethel) ROTC Scholarship: Established by James Boozer (JSU ’58) and wife Ethel for deserving or potential ROTC cadets.
Comfort (Captain Kyle A.) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by the family of Kyle Comfort and the ROTC Classes of 2005-06 in memory of Kyle Comfort, ROTC ’06, who was killed in action on May 8, 2010, while serving in combat in Afghanistan. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student and potential cadet or a current cadet on the path to serve as an Army Officer upon graduation and commissioning.
Elite Letterman’s Club ROTC Scholarship: The club, comprised of members from ROTC classes of 1979-1983, established this scholarship for deserving or potential ROTC cadets.
Fort McClellan Credit Union ROTC Scholarship: The Credit Union established this scholarship for deserving or potential ROTC cadets.
Haskins (Colonel George D.) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by COL (R) William E. Cline, ROTC Class of '67, in honor of COL George D. Haskins who served as JSU ROTC Professor of Military Science during the period of 1965-1968.
Heathcock (Colonel James (Jim) T.) Memorial ROTC Endowed Scholarships: Established as an endowed scholarship by John H. Heathcock, ROTC ’65, in memory of his brother Jim Heathcock, ROTC ’52, who served 27 years on active military duty. The number of scholarships may vary.
Lott (Captain George W.) Memorial ROTC Endowed Scholarship: Established as an endowed scholarship by the JSU ROTC Alumni Chapter in memory of George W. Lott, ROTC Class of 1950, who was killed in action in 1951, while serving in combat in Korea.
McBride (First Lieutenant Grady E., III) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by ROTC Classes of 1967-1969 in memory of Grady McBride, ROTC '68, who was killed in an enemy attack on June 5, 1970, while serving in combat in Viet Nam.
McNabb (Captain Jerry W.) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by the ROTC Class of 1959 and wife Anne McNabb, in memory of Jerry McNabb, ROTC '59, who was killed in a helicopter accident on June 27, 1966, while serving in combat in Viet Nam.
Miller (Captain Richard C. (Charlie)) Memorial ROTC Endowed Scholarships: Established as an endowed scholarship by John H. Heathcock, ROTC ’65, and wife Jan in memory of Richard “Charlie” Miller, ROTC ’65, who was killed in action on September 3, 1969, while serving in combat in Viet Nam. The number of scholarships may vary.
Northeast Alabama Military Officers Association (MOAA) ROTC Scholarship: The association established this scholarship for a deserving or potential ROTC cadet.
ROTC Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarships: The number of these scholarships may vary and are awarded this scholarship to deserving or potential ROTC cadets.
Savage (Lieutenant Colonel Jerry) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Originally established by Tom Gilbreath, ROTC ’67, on behalf of the ROTC Class of 1967, in memory of their classmate, Jerry Savage, ROTC ‘67, who died while on active military duty. The scholarship has been continued by Jerry’s brother LTC (Ret.) Johnny Savage, ROTC ‘73.
Williams (Major Dwayne) Memorial ROTC Scholarship: Established by Pearl Williams, JSU retiree, in memory of her son, Dwayne, who was killed in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Dwayne was a native of Jacksonville and a University of North Alabama graduate where he received his commission through ROTC in 1982. The scholarship is awarded to deserving students and potential cadets or current cadets on the path to serve as an Army Officer upon graduation and commissioning.
