Scholarship Information
JSU ROTC Alumni Scholarship Program
The scholarship program consists of Network and Annual Scholarships and is coordinated by the Network's Executive Board.
Network Scholarships
Annually, Network Scholarships will be awarded from Network funds as determined by the Executive Board. The number and amount of these type scholarships will be determined based on funds available at the end of each calendar year. In Fall 2002, the board authorized two scholarships in the amount of $500 each.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the PMS. Recipients will not receive any monies directly; scholarships will be credited to the student’s university account. The Executive Board has authorized the purchase of a Network plaque to be displayed in Rowe Hall which will list recipient names.
Anyone wishing to support Network Scholarships or other Network programs should make their check payable to the JSU Foundation. Donations should be mailed to JSU Foundation, 700 Pelham Road N, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Contributors should indicate “ROTC Alumni Network” in the “For” section of the check.
Members may also designate the ROTC Alumni Network when making their annual fund pledge/ donation to the University.
Annual Scholarships
Annual Scholarships may be established by individuals, year groups, organizations, or companies in the amount of $500 or above. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the PMS in all cases. Recipients will not receive any monies directly; scholarships will be credited to the individual’s university account. If a donor makes a commitment to fund an Annual Scholarship for five or more years, the Network will purchase a plaque to be displayed in Rowe Hall. The donor’s name and/or the desired designation will head the plaque; e.g., the “Jerry W. McNabb ROTC Scholarship.” Recipient names will be affixed over time.
- Individuals may establish a scholarship in their own name or in honor of a classmate or loved one.
- Year groups, e.g., Class of 1975, may establish scholarships for the same reasons as individuals and will be responsible for raising monies annually to sustain the scholarship.
- Fraternal organizations, e.g., the Elks, VFW, etc., may establish a scholarship in their name and contribute annually to sustain the scholarship over a period of years.
- Companies may establish and use their sponsored scholarship much the same as organizations.
Those desiring to establish an Annual Scholarship should request a JSU ROTC Alumni Network Annual Scholarship Worksheet from the ROTC Department or contact a member of the Scholarship Committee or one of the Network Officers. Donations for Annual Scholarships should be mailed to JSU Foundation, 700 Pelham Road North, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Contributors should indicate the appropriate Annual Scholarship in the "For" section of the check; e.g., “Class of ’64 Annual ROTC Scholarship.” A Worksheet should have been completed prior to or submitted at the same time as funds.
Coordination with JSU Foundation
By submitting scholarship contributions directly to the JSU Foundation, the Board is endeavoring to simplify the Program and avoid Officers handling funds. Because of this direct submission, the purpose for your contribution should be clearly noted in the "For" section of any check, whether for a Network or Annual Scholarship.
As payment by credit card or payment over time is possible, the JSU Foundation will establish those tracking and auditing procedures that are necessary. Members of the Network's Scholarship Committee will coordinate with the Foundation to ascertain the establishment of any scholarship or status of funding of scholarships.
Because the Committee will also act as a contact team with organizations and companies, members of the Committee will also coordinate with the Foundation to ensure there are no conflicting University plans regarding those organizations or companies.
