Zeta Tau Alpha to “Paint the Town Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — As the world recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Jacksonville State University is gearing up to paint Jacksonville pink to raise funds and awareness to help combat the deadly illness.
Each October, the sisters of Jax State’s Zeta Tau Alpha chapter “Paint the Town Pink” by lining Jacksonville’s Pelham Road/State Highway 21 with hundreds of pink bows — each representing a donation made to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. The students have raised $879,000 for philanthropy over the years, earning national chapter awards for their efforts. This year’s fundraising goal is $30,000.
“Every bow tells a story,” said ZTA fundraising chair and Jax State education major Stella Phillips. “Whether it’s to honor a survivor, recognize someone currently battling cancer, or remember someone we’ve lost, this campaign brings our campus and community together in a meaningful way.”
The highlight of the month is Jax State’s Think Pink Football Game, held in AmFirst Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. Before kickoff, breast cancer survivors will be recognized on the field, cheered on by the crowd with pink shakers provided by sponsors. Fans are invited to wear pink to the game, and sorority members will distribute pink lapel ribbons to those in attendance.

“One in eight women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime,” said Molly Graben, ZTA president and nursing major. “Until that number is zero, my sisters and I will continue to fight for a cure so that no one loses a loved one to this illness.”
