The Office of Sponsored Programs Grant Proposal Training ParticipantsThe Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) recently sponsored its first intensive weeklong training event at Merrill Hall.

Jax State faculty and staff learned how to create successful grant proposals for federal, state, or local government and other funding opportunities through “engaging, thought-provoking, and interactive sessions led by a highly sought-after trainer from The Grantsmanship Center (TGCI),” explained Patty Daigle, Assistant Director for the Office of Sponsored Programs.

According to its website, the mission of TGCI is “to help private and public nonprofits make better communities by providing training and publications that help organizations plan solid programs, write logical, compelling grant proposals, secure and manage grants, and create earned income opportunities.”

During the five-day event, participants improved their skills by learning about various ways to find funding by using TCGI’s grant proposal format.

Under the expert guidance of TCGI trainer AJ King, participants worked as a team to write and peer review five potential grant proposals that the OSP intends to submit within the next year.

“As part of this highly sought-after training opportunity,” Daigle said, “It was expected that each participant successfully research and prepare a grant proposal that could potentially fund a program, equipment, or center in their college, department or the university.”

The OSP manages issues related to externally funded sponsored grants and contracts that are awarded to Jax State. The OSP also assists faculty and staff:

  • finding potential funding opportunities
  •  budget development
  •  the internal approval process, and
  •  the application and submission process.

The goal of these efforts is to ensure that Jax State’s standards for performance are achieved by providing expert guidance to faculty and staff throughout the life cycle of a project.

“The Office of Sponsored Programs is committed to the support, development, submission, and management of these activities by the faculty and staff of Jax State,” Daigle said.

Faculty and staff interested in applying for external funding from federal, state, county, local government, foundation, private business, non-profit organization, or a corporation, as well as participating as a subrecipient with another university, contact the OSP. The OSP we can set up a comprehensive pre-planning meeting to address details of the grant and what is required in order to comply with the policies and procedures as determined by Jax State.
