Jax State Announces 2024 Honors Scholarship Recipients

Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious 2024 Honors Scholarships. This highly competitive scholarship is awarded to only eight outstanding high school seniors each year, recognizing their exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and community service.
To qualify for the Honors Scholarship, applicants must have a minimum ACT score of 30, a 3.75 GPA, and demonstrated leadership and service in their schools and communities. Those selected for the scholarship receive full tuition, housing, a meal plan, and books for their time at Jax State.
"We are excited to welcome our eight new Honors Scholars to the Honors Program at Jax State," said Dr. Lori Owens, Dean of Honors and Special Programs. "These scholars are not only exceptionally bright and talented, but they also demonstrate remarkable leadership and a strong commitment to service. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will have in the classroom, on campus, and within the broader community over the next four years."
2024 Honors Scholarship Recipients:
Nathan Adams: A graduate and salutatorian of Cleburne County High School, he was active in Beta Club, FCA, served as a school ambassador, and was an awarded football, basketball, and baseball athlete. A JSU Dual Enrollment Emerging Scholar, he has also served as a JSU Dual Enrollment Representative. Achieving Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America, he has engaged in numerous volunteer activities, including building a Gaga ball pit at the Heflin Art Center. He has also volunteered through Samaritans' Purse, Feeding Cleburne, and at the Heflin Fire Department. Nathan plans to major in Exercise Science and Wellness. |
Jace Boudreaux: A graduate of Huntsville High School, he was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Latin Club, and an active member of the school's music program. Having been the Marching Band Percussion and Truck Crew Captain, the Concert Band Percussion Leader, and Buckhorn Independent Percussion Drum Captain, he has also performed at the London New Year's Day Parade and been a College Band Directors National Association invited performer. He has served at the Humane Society for animal care and provided free instruction to beginning percussionists. Jace plans to major in Finance. |
Jackson Clements: A graduate of Douglas High School, he was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honors Society, and was a tennis team and cross-country athlete. As secretary of his school's FFA chapter, where he previously served as treasurer, he received an Outstanding Achievement award on the state level. He was also Captain of the Math Team, a member of the Scholars Bowl Team, a member of the D-Club, and a Marshall County Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. He has volunteered with Douglas FFA and assisted with the Douglas Veteran's Day Program. Jackson plans to major in Integrated Studies. |
Kendall England: A graduate and valedictorian of Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN, she was an active member of SGA, Beta Club and Magic Moments and played on the soccer team. A former Girls State Delegate and AP scholar with honors, she has also served on the Lincoln Youth Advisory Board and on the First National Bank Youth Advisory Board. She has been a peer tutor at her high school and the Hand of Mercy Outreach Center. Kendall plans to major in Biology. |
Chloe Mittelstadt: A graduate of Thompson High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, and the Spanish Honor Society. She was a recipient of the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence and an invited scholar to the National Youth Leadership Forum. A well-awarded athlete, having won the Shelby County 2023 Player of the Year award, among many others, she has committed to playing volleyball at Jax State. She has served her community through Project Outreach and by helping at her church. Chloe plans to major in Chemistry. |
Kari Gardner: A graduate of George Walton Comprehensive High School in Marietta, GA, she was awarded her school's Raider Pride Award for outstanding character and was active in the marching band, drama club, and the International Spanish Academy. Academically, she was a member of the National Honors Society, the National Spanish Honors Society, the Thespian Honors Society, and the Tri-M Music Honors Society. She has used her skills as a translator for Spanish-speaking families and assisted in paint recycling initiatives that helped her community. Kari plans to major in Music Education. |
Mohamad Hamdan: A graduate and salutatorian of Iqra Math and Science Academy, he served as team captain of the Scholar Bowl Team and was a member of the Journalism Club. He was selected as a student of the month during his senior year, has served as an IMSA Leadership Representative for his school at Jacksonville State University's Leadership Conference, and has placed in poetry and Islamic Fair competitions at his school. Having accumulated over 125 hours of community service, he has volunteered at the Salam Free Clinic Food Pantry and for the Meals on Wheels Foundation. Mohamad plans to major in Biology. |
Katie Williamson: A graduate and valedictorian of Southside High School, she was a member of FBLA, Key Club, FCCLA, and the dance line, where she served as captain her senior year. She served as student council president her senior year, was a member of the National Honor Society, and received an AP Scholar award. She has been active in community service through visiting nursing homes, serving as a group leader for younger girls at her high school, and volunteering at an elementary school's fall festival. Katie plans to major in Biology and Chemistry. |
