Visitors are welcome to visit the overlook at Chimney Peak daily, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University are working together to better protect and preserve Chimney Peak. A gate has been installed and, effective Feb. 12, overnight access will be limited.
The general public is welcome to continue enjoying the overlook during operating hours, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The gate will automatically open at 5 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. In the event you are behind the gate when it closes at 9 p.m., pull up and it will automatically open. New entrants will not be allowed after 9 p.m. and camera monitoring will be in use to deter visitors from remaining past closing.
Signage will be placed along Mountain Street warning drivers to turn around after operating hours. Property owners near Chimney Peak should contact the police department at 256-435-6448 for assistance.
