2014 Gamecock Orientation Advisors Sought
11/04/2013
Dear Faculty Member:
Jacksonville State University is now accepting applications for the position of 2014 Gamecock Orientation (GO!) Advisor. This position has carried much prestige over the years at JSU. After reading the job description as well as tentative schedule, I hope that you will strongly consider applying for this position. The program has experienced many changes throughout the years, and we feel that it is better than ever! With the changes across campus, this program will give you an opportunity to learn more about JSU as well as interact with other faculty members and student leaders who have been selected to work with the orientation team.
There are many changes which have been made to the orientation program throughout the years. With the implementation of the First Year Experience course for all incoming students who have less than 24 earned hours, we have seen our freshman retention rates rise significantly. The orientation team works closely with those who are teaching the course by helping to provide training and guidance for these instructors, and Orientation advisors are also asked to teach a section of the course.
In order to select the best possible team, the GO! Selection Team and former GO! Advisors will be conducting interviews/interest meetings with new applicants or anyone who has not participated in the program for some time. Faculty members applying for the position will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the program, receive information about training and orientation dates, and hear experiences from former GO! Advisors.
GO! Advisor applications are due by Monday, November, 11, 2013, to A-1 Ramona Wood Building. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rhonda Kilgo at extension 8247 or rkilgo@jsu.edu. I truly hope that you will consider becoming a part of the GO! Team and apply for this position. We look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Rhonda W. Kilgo
GO! Advisor Coordinator
