On Sunday, November 11, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Anniston, the Jacksonville State University A Cappella Choir will have its Winter Concert. The concert will feature a wide variety of choral works from many musical periods, including works for percussion ensemble and choir.
A Cappella Choir is under the direction of JSU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Patricia Corbin, and the choir’s accompanist is Meg Griffin.. “This concert is in preparation for our January performance at the 2013 Alabama Music Educators In Service Conference in Montgomery,” says Dr. Corbin. “We are very excited at the opportunity to perform at such a prestigious event.”
A food drive to benefit the St. Michael’s Food Ministry will also be held at the concert. Concert attendees are being asked to bring in canned food, peanut butter, cereal, dry pasta, and other non-perishable food items. Donation boxes will be located in the lobby. This food drive is being organized by the newly established JSU student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. “The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is a magnificent building with wonderful acoustics. Our JSU choirs have been fortunate enough to perform there many times,” says Dr. Corbin. “The students are happy to have the opportunity to give something back.”
The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is located at 1000 West 18th Street in Anniston. For further information about the concert or the food drive, please contact the JSU Office of Choral Activities: (256) 782-5544.
