National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

In spring 2023, selected freshmen and seniors will be invited via JSU e-mail, JSU Student Portals and Canvas to participate in NSSE starting February 22. NSSE is an annual survey administered by the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University. It collects information directly from selected students - information that JSU can use to improve teaching, learning, and campus life. JSU has participated in the study since 2006. At JSU, NSSE is sponsored by the Office of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Students Office, Student Success Technology and 1st & 2nd Year Experience in the Division of Student Success, SGA, and Institutional Research & Effectiveness.

NSSE 2023 Progress Update -  As of Monday, March 6, the overall response rate was 17.7% which is 11.1 percentage points lower than what we had around the same time 2 years ago in 2021. But we are 3.4 percentage points higher than that of the institutions similar to JSU. Of the respondents, 20% or 331 of the first-year students and 15% or  235 of the seniors completed or partially completed the survey. Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE)

Beginning April 4, all faculty will be invited to participate in the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) which complements NSSE. It is designed to measure faculty expectations for students engagement in educational practices that are empirically linked with high level of student learning and development.

FSSE identifies areas of institutional strength as we as aspects of the undergraduates experience that may warrant attention. To learn more about it, please visit www.fesse.indiana.edu.
