Before beginning work at JSU, you will need to complete the following new hire paperwork. You will access these forms inside MyJaxState. Upon log-in, you will select Applicants in the left navigation, and then select the forms under the Human Resources column.

If you are a student worker, you will also need to fill out the following:

Your First Day

Be sure you are registered for New Employee Orientation, hosted by the Department of Human Resources. This is a one-day session that will introduce you to the University, and includes lunch, a campus tour, and benefits overview.

❏  Meet with your Manager. Be sure to discuss:

    • Your work schedule and protocol for timekeeping.
    • Your role and responsibilities.
    • Specific functions of your department and how you will impact and support the job
    • Functions of your teammates.
    • How to obtain/order office supplies for your position.
    • Guidelines and protocol for after hours work area access.
    • Training requirements or recommendations.
    • Initial work assignments.
    • Expectations for work hours and lunch.
    • Review University policies and procedures, paying special attention to:
      • Probationary Period
      • Attendance and Leave
      • JSU Employee Handbook
      • Expectations for being absent to work (scheduling vacations, calling in sick).
      • Dress code expectations

❏  Get your workspace ready:

    • Log into and orient yourself to MyJaxState.
    • Set-up email and voicemails.
    • Get keys and building access if necessary.
    • Identify the location of the printers, copiers, and other office equipment.

❏  Order your parking decal through MyJaxState.

Your First Week

❏  Review and familiarize yourself with JSU’s Mission and Vision Statements, as well as the University Policies and Procedures

❏  Request a copy of your position description, if not already provided to you by your manager

❏  Complete any unfinished items from your meeting with your manager from “Your First Day.”

Within 30 Days

❏  Enroll in your benefits.

❏  Meet with your Manager. Be sure to discuss:

    • Your schedule for your first week.
    • Training requirements or recommendations.
    • Initial work assignments.
    • Expectations for work hours and lunch.

❏  Review University policies and procedures, paying special attention to:

    • Probationary Period

    • Tobacco Free Campus
    • JSU Employee Handbook

    • Performance expectations and goals for your first 30 days and 6-months.

Within Your First Year

❏  Be sure to set up your retirement savings plan if you have not done so and choose to do so.

❏  Be healthy! Take advantage of the University Recreation Center

❏  Explore JSU. Be sure to check out some of JSU’s gems:

❏  Participate in professional development opportunities offered through the Department of Human Resources.

❏  Monitor progress on your performance goals

❏  Get engaged

    • Volunteer for committees.
    • Read the Red & White, the electronic newsletter sent to your inbox by the Office of Public Relations.
    • Pay attention to the HR News & Updates.
    • Attend campus events.
    • Attend a Gamecock Athletics event.
