Jax MIX Assessment Series
Jax MIX: Advancing Quality Assessment is a professional development series designed to strengthen faculty understanding and practice of assessment within JSU’s General Education Signature Program. This training will focus on assessment in Jax MIX and general education courses while also connecting how those skills and outcomes extend into upper-level core courses.
The series serves three purposes:
- For faculty teaching general education courses, it provides practical strategies and insights for meaningful, efficient, and effective assessment in Jax MIX.
- For all participating faculty, the series highlights how Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and assessments in general education connect to and prepare students for success in upper-division coursework, ensuring a more cohesive and intentional learning experience across the curriculum.
- For faculty interested in the Provost’s Faculty Fellowship, participation is a required step in the application process, offering critical preparation for those seeking to join the spring cohort and deepen their understanding of quality assessment for student learning outcomes.*
Through workshops and collaborative activities, participants will gain valuable tools to enhance assessment practices that support both faculty teaching goals and student success across the curriculum.
*Faculty interested in applying to be the Provost’s Faculty Fellow must attend three sessions from the Jax MIX: Advancing Quality Assessment series. For more information, visit the Provost’s Faculty Fellows page.
- Equip faculty with strategies to design and implement meaningful, efficient, and effective assessments in Jax MIX and general education courses.
- Highlight how assessment in general education supports and aligns with upper-level core courses, creating a cohesive student learning journey.
- Make assessment processes more transparenta and approachable, helping faculty see assessment as a tool for improvement rather than compliance.
- Provide faculty with training and collaborative opportunities to share practices, refine assessment approaches, and align with institutional priorities.
- Offer essential preparation for faculty applying to the Provost’s Faculty Fellowship, ensuring participants have a strong foundation in quality assessment for student learning outcomes.
