JSU Study Abroad Faculty Guide for a Successful Proposal

- Academic Rigor - Course objectives are clearly defined, objectives include intercultural learning, the itinerary and activities complement learning goals, and assignments/evaluation are clearly presented.
- Budget - Budget is fully detailed with costs outlined pertaining to tuition, university fee(s), program fee(s), textbook(s), meals, accommodations, flight ticket(s), travel insurance, passport, spending money, and any other costs.
- Cost to Students – Cost to students is $150/day or less.
- Health and Safety - Specifically and satisfactorily addresses potential health, safety, and/or liability hazards.
- Experience - Faculty is knowledgeable about the country and culture. Faculty has experience leading study abroad in the past.
- Relevance of Location - Location is essential to the course. The faculty has planned for all events and seminars to tie the location and course content together.
- Diversity/Novelty - The course and program offered are diverse in their instructional methods and content. They offer something new and refreshing that contributes to the diversity of offerings at JSU.
