What is MGC?

Multicultural fraternal organizations emerged in the 1980s and 1990s. These organizations sought to address the lack of support for minority groups entering higher education, while also reflecting the growing cultural diversity of American society. Unlike single-cultural organizations, multicultural fraternal groups embraced a variety of cultural identities, appealing to students who identified with multiple cultures or diverse backgrounds.

Why Join?

MGC defines multiculturalism as not only diversity of membership, but a concrete commitment to acknowledge and celebrate all cultures equally through programming, public service outreach efforts and community education. If this is something that you connected with, we encourage you to reach out to our organizations.

How Do I Join

Membership selection in MGC is an individualized process that is different for each organization.
Jax State has our FIRST MGC Organization - Alpha Psi Lambda Fraternity, Inc.

The chapter chooses the time when they will take new members. This process, known as intake, generally begins with an interest meeting followed by a period of membership education. The membership process culminates with initiation and a New Member Presentation or Celebration.

We strongly encourage those interested in the Membership Intake process to contact the respective MGC organization for more information. If you are not sure where to start or would like more information, please contact our Assistant Dean of Students at 256-782-5490.
