Undergraduate: Jacksonville State University, 2018 Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
Law School: Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, 2021
Current Employer: McGlinchey Stafford, PLLC, Birmingham, Alabama as a Financial Services Litigator. While Financial Services is a broad area of law, my particular focus is on litigation. On a day-to-day basis, I handle litigation (lawsuits) for financial institutions (such as banks, mortgage servicers, and other lenders) in both state and federal courts in the states of Alabama and Tennessee.
Ways the JSU Pre-Law Program helped prepare you for law school: Any classes that focus on “Law” such as the Intro to Pre-law or Constitutional Law course clarified what materials would be expected in law school. Additionally, I found that theory classes that utilize a more Socratic teaching style (Ancient and Medieval Political Theory and Modern Political Theory) to help prepare for law school. Additionally, participation in the “Model Arab League” and “Model United Nations” can also be beneficial. The skills are easily transferable for research purposes and looking at various issues from multiple angles. Specifically, for anyone that thinks they want to be a litigator, these groups help with public speaking skills, theory crafting for arguments, and importantly the ability to negotiate settlements between opposing viewpoints.
Advice for those considering law school: Anyone interested in attending law school should use the free practice LSAT testing offered. Becoming familiar with the test is the key to achieving the scores that one needs to attend and receive scholarships for law school. One of the hardest transitions from undergraduate to law school was going from reading before class being encouraged to being mandatory so that you are prepared for class. The sheer volume of reading will be exhausting (especially the first year).
