Saxophone Choir
Dr. Tony Logsdon, Director
JSU Saxophone Ensembles consist of two saxophone quartets utilizing the instrumentation of soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. Occasionally, music is selected for an ensemble with two alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone. At times, the two quartets are combined to give students the opportunity to perform music composed for a larger saxophone choir. Students are provided opportunities to develop skills associated with chamber music while performing a wide variety of compositions. Students perform transcriptions from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Periods. Original saxophone quartet literature, influenced by French, German, and American composers, is studied so that students can improve their performance skills in the chamber music genre. All saxophone students interested in performing in an ensemble are welcome. Performances are usually given on student recitals and special JSU functions.
