2022-2023 New Faculty Cohort

Faculty Commons is launching a meeting series designed especially for new faculty members to provide meaningful resources, networking opportunities, and a place to discuss topics relevant to first-year employment experiences in a collaborative setting.

Goals:

To promote inclusion and a feeling of belonging in the JSU academic community
To promote a sense of inclusion and belonging in the Jacksonville, Alabama city area

To support the mental health and well-being of new faculty members
To understand university and college specific policies and procedures including tenure and promotion expectations

Fall 2022

August 19, 2022	Time: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. New Faculty Kickoff Event: New Faculty Orientation Meehan Hall 5th Floor
August 22, 2022	Time: 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. New Faculty Kickoff Social Event: Welcome Back Grand Slam Jim Case Stadium
Meeting 1	Roundtable Discussion- Life in J’Ville-What to Do and Where to Go Date/Time: September 13 (12:30-1:30) and Wednesday, September 14 (12:15-1:15) Location: Lunch in the Caf Purpose: Get to know each other
Meeting 2	Roundtable Discussion- 3rd Year Review, Promotion and Tenure Date/Time: Tuesday, October 4 (12:30-1:30), and Wednesday, October 5 (12:15-1:15) Location: Boxed Lunch in Faculty Commons Purpose: Discuss basic information and questions pertaining to 3rd year review, promotion, and tenure review, including opportunities for P&T training, where to find P&T information on the JSU website, and who to ask within departments and colleges about P&T specific information.
Meeting 3	Social Event-Fall Festival/Halloween Event Date/Time: TBA Location: President's House (?) Purpose: Team building
Meeting 4	Presentation- Sponsored Programs and Faculty Research Grants Date/Time: November 17, 12:00-1:30 Location: TBA Purpose: To learn about the Office of Sponsored Programs and Faculty Research Grant Opportunities
