Program Description and Goals

Faculty Commons joins forces with important services, programs, and departments that positively impact the university learning environment to highlight the wealth of beneficial resources that faculty have access to at Jacksonville State University. Strengthening the partnerships between Jax State faculty and various divisions across campus will directly impact how engaged faculty feel in the campus community and will provide them with the support to reach our students, retain them, and ultimately, impact their long-term success. We hope you will join us as we explore the multitude of services and programs Jax State has to offer.

Presentation: Active Threat Awareness Training with UPD

Description: Jax State's University Police Department's active threat response training provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.

Presentation: Severe Weather Awareness with UPD

Description: This essential session will equip faculty and staff with critical information about severe weather safety protocols and campus procedures. Participants will learn how to recognize threats, respond effectively during weather emergencies, and ensure the safety of students and colleagues when severe weather occurs.

Presentation: Student Alcohol Policies and Risk Reduction, Cannabis Use, the Stop Campus Hazing Act

Description: This informative session will guide faculty and staff through key student policies and federal requirements related to alcohol use, cannabis, and hazing prevention. Participants will gain clarity on student alcohol policies, risk-reduction strategies, and the implications of cannabis use on campus, as well as an overview of the Stop Campus Hazing Act. The session emphasizes awareness, compliance, and proactive support, equipping attendees with the knowledge needed to foster a safer, more informed campus environment.

Presentation: Stop the Bleed with UPD: CPR, AED, and Emergency Best Practices

Date: April 20

Time:1:30-2:30 PM

Description: In partnership with University Police, this hands-on safety session will provide essential training in Stop the Bleed, CPR, AED use, and emergency best practices. Faculty and staff will learn how to respond quickly and effectively in medical emergencies, stabilize injuries, and support lifesaving efforts until professional help arrives. This session empowers participants with practical skills and confidence to act in critical moments.

Registration is encouraged for all professional development sessions but is not required to attend. However, pre-registration is required for any session that includes lunch. Faculty are always welcome to attend without registering, but lunch is only provided for those who have pre-registered.
