- Effective Teaching (ET) 101: 5–8 hours completion time; self-paced course that helps faculty set a positive tone, build student rapport, clarify expectations, engage students in lectures, and use assessment techniques to monitor learning
- Effective Teaching Practices (ETP) Certification Cohort: Consists of four courses that each take 6-8 weeks to complete (faculty must be teaching while completing cohort courses); nationally recognized certification focused on effective teaching practices in both in-person and online learning environments
- ACUE Commons: ongoing; self-paced training opportunities and resources that explores curated content including Quick Studies, badges, and endorsements

ACUE’s programs are grounded in evidence-based teaching practices and have been studied across colleges and universities nationwide. Research has examined the impact of ACUE-trained faculty on areas such as student engagement, course completion, academic achievement, and faculty confidence in their teaching practices.
ACUE maintains a collection of research studies, impact reports, and institutional results for faculty who would like to explore the evidence behind its programs.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how you can participate.
Additional information and reminders about this session will be shared with faculty.
Effective Teaching 101
Self-Paced | Approximately 5–8 Hours to Complete
Effective Teaching 101 is a self-paced course designed to provide practical strategies you can begin using in your classroom. The course focuses on helping you:
- Set a positive tone for learning
- Build rapport with students
- Clarify course and assignment expectations
- Engage students during lectures
- Use assessment techniques to monitor student learning
While the course is completed independently and at your own pace, Jax State will host a group start on September 11 to help faculty get started, encourage course completion, and provide a space to work alongside colleagues and discuss what you're learning. Participation in the group start is encouraged but not required to complete the course.
Who can participate?
Any Jax State part-time or full-time faculty member.

Effective Teaching Certification Cohort
Four Courses | Nationally Recognized Certification
Take your professional development a step further by earning a nationally recognized ACUE teaching certification.
The certification consists of four courses focused on effective teaching practices in both in-person and online learning environments. Each course takes approximately 6–8 weeks to complete.
Faculty will move through the certification experience alongside a cohort of Jax State colleagues. To support progress and create opportunities for shared learning, the cohort will also meet biweekly to check in, discuss course content, share classroom experiences, and encourage continued progress toward certification.
Who can participate?
Any Jax State part-time or full-time faculty member.
Cohort Size: Limited to 30 participants
Registration Deadline: October 1
Cohort Begins: October 26
Biweekly meetings will be scheduled once cohort is selected to offer cohort support and collaboration opportunities for participants.
ACUE Commons: Flexible Learning Available to All Faculty
All Jax State part-time and full-time faculty will have access to ACUE Commons, a flexible, self-paced learning platform that allows you to explore teaching topics when and where they are most useful to you.
Through ACUE Commons, faculty can participate in Quick Studies and earn badges and endorsements in areas relevant to their teaching.
Featured Opportunity: AI for Higher Education
Faculty are especially encouraged to explore and complete the AI for Higher Education Quick Studies self-paced training series, which provides an opportunity to learn more about thoughtfully and effectively navigating artificial intelligence in higher education. Faculty earn points toward an Endorsement by completing aligned Quick Studies courses. The AI for Higher Education Quick Studies series features 10 separate, one-hour self-paced training courses. Faculty must complete four to earn the AI in Higher Education Endorsement.
Registration: No registration is required for ACUE Commons.
Dr. Candice Byers
Assistant Director of Faculty Training
Dr. Candice Byers serves as Jax State's Assistant Director of Faculty Training and works with the Rebecca O. Turner Faculty Commons to support faculty professional development and the implementation of Jax State of Teaching initiatives.
In this role, Dr. Byers helps coordinate faculty training opportunities, supports faculty participating in ACUE programs, and works with faculty as they explore evidence-based strategies for strengthening teaching and student learning.
