Program Description and Goals

A series focused on high impact practices, a pedagogical approach that engages students and is proven to increase retention, so that our students are more likely to graduate. This approach is also fun and rewarding for faculty!

  • To integrate high-impact practices into general education courses to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • To provide faculty with the necessary support and resources to effectively implement HIPs.
  • To systematically evaluate the impact of HIPs on student success and identify effective practices for future improvement.

Join us for the Get HIP! series kickoff information session to learn about evidence-based pedagogical high-impact practices proven to enhance student engagement, retention, and learning outcomes in higher ed.

HIPster Panel

In this lunch and learn session, our HIPster Panel will discuss practical strategies to engage students through experiential learning. The session will begin with an overview of Kolb’s Learning Model, followed by a panel discussion sharing insights on hands-on teaching strategies, including assignment design, reflection integration, and application of skills. Attendees will learn about the 8 elements of High-Impact Practices (HIPs) and gain practical tips and resources to elevate teaching.

Learning Through Reflection

A key stage in high impact practices is the student’s reflection on the experiential learning. This session will provide best practices for engaging students in reflection that leads to transformative learning.

JAXperiental Learning: The Student Face of HIPs

This session will explore the definition of experiential learning (EL) and the various ways Jax State students are actively engaged in these learning environments, including the future of EL, what EL opportunities exist at JSU, and how EL integrates into HIPs.
