Loring White
Loring White, a distinguished alumnus of Jacksonville State University, is a visionary business leader, philanthropist, and advocate for higher education. A native of Prattville, Alabama, he brings decades of leadership experience, helping to shape the university’s strategic direction and future growth.
Loring’s journey at Jax State began in 1974 as a freshman football player, balancing athletics and academics with determination. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1978, laying the foundation for a career defined by resilience, entrepreneurial success, and a deep commitment to giving back. His path to success was shaped by overcoming personal hardships, including homelessness during his senior year of high school. Thanks to the support of his coach and mentor, he secured a football scholarship to Jax State—an opportunity that transformed his future and instilled in him a lifelong dedication to service.
Following graduation, Loring began his career as an assistant football coach at Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, where he helped lead the team to a state championship. Seeking greater professional opportunities in the private sector, he transitioned into sales with Capitol Business Equipment, Inc. (CBE). Starting on a straight commission selling cash registers and typewriters, he worked tirelessly to grow the company. Over time, he acquired CBE and transformed it into a national leader in in-store technology.
In 2021, Loring integrated CBE with Owl Services, a company that has since grown to generate more than $1 billion in annual revenue, providing advanced point-of-sale solutions and services to retailers and businesses nationwide. Owl Services was formed by combining seven of the nation’s top petroleum service, electrical contracting, and EV infrastructure businesses into a single integrated service provider. Loring currently serves on its board of directors.
Beyond his success with CBE, Loring has built a diverse business portfolio, including ownership of a thriving lumber company and Shady Side Farms, a successful cattle operation. His experience and leadership have positioned him as a key advocate for workforce development, higher education initiatives, and business growth in Alabama.
Loring and his wife Debbie share 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
