Tony Ingram
Tony Ingram is retired executive vice president and chief operating officer of CSX Transportation, Inc. The Dothan native earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general business from JSU in 1970. After graduation, the Southern Railway Company hired him into an entry-level position and he found himself inspired by the challenges of working in an industry some believed to be obsolete. This charted a course for a successful railway career that took him to 16 cities and facilitated a move to Fortune 250 company CSX, where he rose to senior leadership.
In December 2009, Ingram retired from CSX, leaving the company with record safety and performance improvements. A state-of-the-art CSX training facility, located in Atlanta, is named the Tony L. Ingram Railroad Education and Development Institute in his honor. JSU recognized Ingram as Alumnus of the Year in 2010. That same year, the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., presented him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
Ingram is married to JSU alumna Gloria Connell Ingram, Class of 1969, and they share three sons – Lacy, Kevin and Josh. They reside in Jacksonville, Fla., and enjoy travel, golf, and giving back to the community by supporting charitable causes like the United Way.
