Dr. Christie Shelton

Christie SheltonDr. Christie Shelton is a JSU alumna and earned her BSN and MSN from the university before receiving a PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She has served in various roles at JSU since 2000 including Lab Coordinator, BSN Program Director, Co-Principal Investigator, and Associate Dean before becoming Dean of the School of Health Professions and Wellness (SHPW) in 2013 (formerly College of Nursing).   

Dr. Shelton’s tenure as dean was one of marked growth for her school. Under her leadership, several new programs were created including a bachelor’s in respiratory therapy and a doctorate in nursing practice.  The undergraduate nursing program grew to become one of the largest and most successful programs on campus, with graduates regularly outperforming peers on the licensure exam.  Dr. Shelton spearheaded the creation of a simulation lab for the nursing programs, which has been well received by students and faculty alike.
 
Dr. Shelton is a board member-at-large for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She is also a member of the Alabama Health Action Coalition and serves as a board member for the Cleburne County Hospital Board.  Dr. Shelton serves on numerous committees, task forces, and work groups for the university.  She served as chair of the Tuition and Fees Committee for two years, significantly contributing to a more equitable approach to fee assessment for students.
