HippoCampus and NROC

HippoCampus provides a set of resources available to faculty for consideration when creating course content. Read below for a description and how to access both the public and private side of this resource.

HippoCampus, a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE), offers multimedia lessons and course materials to help you with your instruction, homework, and studies. You can browse multimedia lessons or complete courses, and find help with topics covered in popular textbooks. The goal of HippoCampus is to provide high-quality, multimedia content on general education subjects to high school and college students free of charge.

In addition to grant-funded materials created by MITE, content has been also developed by some of the finest colleges, universities, and educators in the world, and contributed to the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC). NROC makes editorial and engineering investments in contributed content to prepare it for distribution through its OER site - HippoCampus.org. NROC is supported in part by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and sustaining members of the NROC Network.

User Requirements - The HippoCampus website uses Adobe Flash. We recommend that you have Adobe Flash Player 7.0 or higher installed on your system. In addition, some of the Environmental Science content requires Apple QuickTime version 6 or higher. Be sure to have QuickTime set to enable embedded flash content (you will find this option in the QuickTime control panel under "advanced settings"). Because HippoCampus contains multimedia instructional content, we recommend you have a high-speed Internet connection such as DSL or cable modem.

Please go to the JSU HippoCampus web site for a variety of course content to which you may link from your Canvas courses. In addition, a collection of complete lessons is also available.
