DEPLOYMENTS AFFECT THE JSU FAMILY

With more than 370 Guardsmen, Reservists, retired, and dependent military students currently enrolled at Jacksonville State University, deployments greatly affect enrollment and student life in general.

Guardsmen and Reservists could be called to duty at any time, requiring them to drop school with only a few days notice, and dependent military students face the possibility of a parent or guardian's sudden deployment. A mass deployment affects the entire JSU family.

Lt. Colonel May of JSU's ROTC program states that JSU has already been affected.

"I have had several cadets who were sophomores and went to serve their country as Army Guardsmen or Reservists. Because these soldiers were called to duty, they were set behind in their school work, requiring a delay in graduation. This throws them off course to becoming a contracted officer."

Lt. Colonel May maintains that he is very proud of these individuals for defending their nation and will assist them in any way possible to get them back on track once they return to JSU.

The Veteran's Affair's office in Bibb Graves proudly displays American flags inscribed with deployed students’ names, encouraging everyone to keep those individuals guarding our country close to their hearts. There are currently 37 JSU students known to be deployed. During the holiday season, let us remember these students.
