Health and Physical Education Teacher Education Program

Program Overview:

• Prepares you to teach:
  • Physical Education (PreK–12)
  • Health Education (Grades 6–12)
• Aligned with Alabama Department of Education and SHAPE America standards
• Coursework includes:
  • Motor development, movement concepts, kinesiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics
  • Lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional design

Hands-On Experience:

• “Early and often” fieldwork in:
  • Adapted physical education
  • Practicum and pre-internship teaching
  • Full-semester internship in PE and health settings

Certification & Outcomes:

• Pass the Physical Education Praxis, Health Education Praxis, and edTPA
• Earn dual Alabama certifications:
  • Physical Education (P–12)
  • Health Education (6–12)
• Graduate ready to lead and inspire active, healthy lifestyles in schools.
