Health and Physical Education Teacher Education Program
Program Overview:
- Prepares you to teach:
- Physical Education (PreK–12)
- Health Education (Grades 6–12)
- Aligned with Alabama Department of Education and SHAPE America standards
- Coursework includes:
- Motor development, movement concepts, kinesiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics
- Lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional design
Hands-On Experience:
- “Early and often” fieldwork in:
- Adapted physical education
- Practicum and pre-internship teaching
- Full-semester internship in PE and health settings
Certification & Outcomes:
- Pass the Physical Education Praxis, Health Education Praxis, and edTPA
- Earn dual Alabama certifications:
- Physical Education (P–12)
- Health Education (6–12)
- Graduate ready to lead and inspire active, healthy lifestyles in schools.
Degree Requirements
This degree requires 120 hours of coursework, including practicum and internship placements.
