Medical Plan
PEEHIP
JSU participates in the Public Education Employees' Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP).
- PEEHIP Hospital Medical Group #14000 Plan
- The plan itself is administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. Single and Family medical coverage are offered.
- Coverage becomes effective the first of month after hired.
- The current base rate is:
- $30 per month for single
- $207 per month for family coverage (Employee + Dependents w/o spouse)**
- $282 per month (Employee + Spouse only)
- $307 per month for family coverage with Spousal Surcharge
**Spouses dually eligible for PEEHIP enrolled in family coverage qualify for this premium tier
- There is an additional monthly allocation based on salary:
- $0 - $34,999
- $35,000 - $53,999
- $54,000 or more
- $16/month $36/month $56/month.
- There is also a $50 monthly surcharge for tobacco users (member and spouse).
- Employees enrolled in the hospital/medical plan are required to complete the wellness screening and activities by August 31st of each year to earn a waiver of the $50 monthly wellness premium
- These deductions are pre-taxed (mandatory).
Optional Plans
- Each eligible employee has the opportunity to elect one or more optional coverage plans offered by Southland National.
- Coverage becomes effective the first of month after hired
- Dental $50 per month for family coverage and $38 per month for single
- Vision $38 per month for family or single coverage (discount program)
- Cancer $38 per month for family or single coverage
- Hospital Indemnity $38 per month for family or single coverage
- These deductions are pre-taxed (mandatory)

Flexible Spending Plan
Medical Reimbursement
- Administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.
- Members can use this account to pay for most health care expenses not covered by your health, dental and vision insurance.
- Maximum plan year contribution is $3,200.
- Money set aside in your Medical Reimbursement Account will reduce your taxable income.
- These deductions are pre-taxed (mandatory).
Dependent Care
- Administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.
- Members can use this account to pay for dependent care expenses.
- Maximum plan year contribution is $5,000 (married filing jointly) or $2,500 (married, filing separate)
- Money set aside in your Dependent Care Account will reduce your taxable income.
- These deductions are pre-taxed (mandatory).
Health & Wellness Program
Please note that the Wellness Screening and Health Coaching (for some members) are required activities. These screenings are offered throughout the year; you should make your appointment through the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Free Flu Shots
You may get your flu shot during the University's Annual Benefits Fair. You must register online for this service. Register for your flu shot.
You may also get your flu shot at:

- Your local pharmacy
- The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH): View a listing of available and upcoming flu shot clinics offered by ADPH.
There is no additional cost or co-pay for any of the flu shot options above. Simply present your PEEHIP ID card to your health professional.
