Application Requirements
To be considered for admission to the Graduate School, applicants must:
- Hold a degree from a regionally accredited institution or its foreign equivalent.
- Meet all program-specific admission requirements as posted in the Graduate Catalog. (International Students must additionally meet all other international admission requirements as specified in the Graduate Catalog and on the International House and Programs website.)
- Complete the JSU Graduate Application for Admission. (Access a Previously Started Application)
- Pay the non-refundable $35 application processing fee.
- Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities with degrees posted to Graduate Admissions (students who have previously attended JSU do not need to request a transcript from the university).

A student who holds a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution may enroll in graduate courses as a professional development/non-degree seeking student.

If, at a later date, the student decides to pursue a degree at JSU, the student must petition, in writing, to the Dean of Graduate School that the course(s) taken as a professional development/non-degree seeking student be counted toward the degree. The student must also meet the admission requirements for the degree program, and all coursework used toward the degree must fall within its given time limit.
Students wishing to transfer to JSU should complete the JSU Graduate Application for Admission and then, if accepted, request transfer credit to JSU. (Access a Previously Started Application)
Steps to Transfer Credit
- Complete and submit a Transfer Credit Request form, listing the course(s) you wish to transfer.
- Request an official transcript from the institution where the credit was earned be sent to Graduate Certification (if it has not already been sent with your application for admission):

Evaluation of Transfer Credit
- Evaluation of transfer credit is made by the appropriate department of the student’s major and approved by Graduate Studies. A student intending to enroll at another institution and transfer a course(s) to JSU, must receive approval of the course work prior to enrolling in the course to ensure the course will be accepted for inclusion in the student’s program of study.
- Transfer credit cannot be used to raise the GPA of JSU coursework to the required minimum GPA of any major, teacher certification program, or graduate certificate program.
- Only graduate courses with grades A, B, P, and S may be transferred to JSU. Grades of C or below will not be eligible for transfer.
- Transfer credit must meet Time Limits as stated in the Graduate Catalog.

A graduate student in good standing at a regionally accredited college or university may be admitted to Jacksonville State University as a transient student.

Scholarship Details
The Jax State Dual Enrollment Faculty Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for high school teachers who have master’s degrees and who teach at a JSU Dual Enrollment Partner School. Applicants must:
- Currently hold a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent in an eligible General Education teaching field: biology, economics, English, fine arts, foreign language, history, mathematics, political science, psychology, science, social studies, or sociology, etc.
- Currently teach in a high school that has a Dual Enrollment MOU with JSU and is in JSU’s service area as defined by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE): Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Randolph, St. Clair, and Talladega counties. This partner high school must have a desire and commitment to offering in-person Dual Enrollment courses in the applicant’s discipline on their high school campus.
- Have at least a GPA of 3.25 from the master’s degree and any subsequent graduate coursework.
Applicants will complete the following steps:
- Have their Principal submit the Acknowledgement and Recommendation Form.
- Have their Guidance Counselor submit the Acknowledgement and Recommendation Form.
- Complete the Jax State Dual Enrollment Faculty Scholarship Application Form.
- Apply for JSU Dual Enrollment Adjunct Faculty
Priority Deadline:
- Applications submitted by March 1 will be given preference.
Criteria for Selection
The successful applicant will:
- Receive favorable review in the JSU Dual Enrollment Adjunct Faculty review process.
- Have a record of successful high school teaching in the discipline and show strong evidence of potential for successful college teaching in the discipline.
- Show strong evidence of potential for success in JSU graduate classes in the discipline.
- Be able to assist the high school partner school and JSU to meet the shortage of SACSCOC-qualified instructors in particular needed subject areas in general education.
Scholarship Award
The scholarship must be used for the specific graduate coursework listed in the award letter, approved by the Director and Coordinator of Dual Enrollment and the academic Department Head in the discipline, and must be completed within the timeframe, also specified in the letter. Scholarship awards will vary but may include graduate tuition and the General University Fee. Applicants awarded the scholarship will receive instructions on how they should apply to the JSU Graduate School and which program they should select in order to complete the specified coursework.
