Dr. Brandon Gilliland is a seasoned educator with over 18 years of experience in secondary and higher education. He serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Jacksonville State University, where he specializes in preparing future educators through courses in social studies pedagogy, assessment, and research methods.
Since 2015, Dr. Gilliland has also served as a dual enrollment instructor in the Department of History and Foreign Languages at Jacksonville State University, teaching HY 201 (American History I) and HY 202 (American History II). This role has allowed him to engage directly with high school students, bridging secondary and higher education to foster college readiness and academic success.
Dr. Gilliland began his career with 16 years as a social sciences teacher in the Talladega County School System before transitioning to school administration in the Alexander City School System. His extensive classroom and leadership experience have informed his research interests, which include school safety, school law, and contemporary trends in secondary education.
Dr. Gilliland earned a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, an M.Ed. in Social Science Education from the University of West Alabama, and an Ed.D. in Leadership from Creighton University.
With a steadfast commitment to excellence in education, Dr. Gilliland continues to contribute to initiatives that advance the field of social studies education and prepare future educators for success.
