Mrs. Hilda Norton's Career Spans 64 Years and Counting
A Jacksonville State University instructor’s passion for teaching has led to a career that has spanned more than 64 years and counting. Mrs. Hilda Norton began teaching English at JSU upon retiring from the Gadsden City school system after a 24-year career.

JSU Librarian and Marathon Runner Laurie Charnigo Inspires Others to Run
Mrs. Charnigo, who began running about five years ago, ran 14 miles her first time trying the sport. Now, she runs close to 40 miles per week training for marathons.  This love of running has also rubbed off on other members of the staff at JSU’s Houston Cole Library. The library now has several employees who participate in marathons and various road races around the state.

The man who made physical card catalogs – and all their attendant furniture – obsolete at Jacksonville State University.

Dr. Nouredine Zettili
The Jacksonville State University associate professor of physics is making an impact on northeast Alabama by improving the quality of physics and chemistry courses in secondary schools. His project is called Improving Physics and Chemistry Teaching in Secondary Education -- or IMPACTSEED.

Jacksonville State University’s Dr. Claudia McDade, director of Learning Services and professor of psychology, recently went to England to take part in a session of the Oxford University Round Table, where she presented a paper on philanthropy.

Omar Cunningham
Omar Cunningham, a former member of Jacksonville State University’s Gospel Choir, is a fast-rising blues singer who’s just released his first album, “Hell at the House,” which is listed at about number 80 by Billboard magazine.

Tom Allred
Tom Allred, network programmer for Jacksonville State University's Department of Academic Computer Services, is a jack-of-all-trades.

Robbie Medders
Robbie Medders, a 1974 graduate of Jacksonville State University and associate director of the JSU Small Business Development Center, has been named the Association of Small Business Development Centers’ 2003 Alabama State Star.

Dr. Steven J. Whitton
Dr. Whitton said acting has become a passion. He has performed in nearly 50 productions since 1977, most recently in the JSU production of "Proof."

Mr. Carter Osterbind
Mr. Carter Osterbind, Jacksonville State University professor of art, selected art school rather than law school to pursue his true calling.

Officer Neil Fetner
Jacksonville State University Police Officer Neil Fetner is UPD’s accreditation manager and public information officer, which means the Roanoke native, who joined JSU in 2002, has a big hand in explaining the campus public safety program’s areas of service for students as well as the public.

Student Deployments
With more than 370 Guardsmen, Reservists, retired, and dependent military students currently enrolled at Jacksonville State University, deployments greatly affect enrollment and student life in general.

Auctioneer School
A great auctioneer is seemingly a super entertainer and marketing “expert” who combines acting ability, a lightning-fast tongue and a good head for quick math. Behind the scenes, it takes a lot of training and expertise to become an effective auctioneer.

Drama Department
The spring 2004 semester opens with the Drama Department's 30-year anniversary performance February 19 - 22 and 26 - 29 of "WEST SIDE STORY" by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.
