“Dr. Dave Walters Dedicatory” Concert
Followed by Fireworks

An area-wide Wind Symphony will play a one-hour dedicatory concert for Dr. David L. Walters, former band director of the famed Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners at the
Guntersville Civitan Park Pavilion on July 4 at 8 p.m.

The program will include patriotic selections and “The Schindler’s List” theme, played by a guest violinist from the Nashville Symphony. Several conductors, as well as local solo artist Mike Foust singing “God Bless the USA,” will be among the presentations. Ninety-two musicians have been recruited to date. Area high school students, band directors and other professionals will be joined by 25 Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners in performing. The program will conclude with the “1812 Overture” starting with the horn entrance to the end. The only rehearsal will be at 3:00 p.m. that same afternoon.

Dr. Walters invites all former Southerners “to bring their horns and help us!” In the event of rain, the performance will be held at Guntersville First Baptist Church at 8 p.m. Musicians interested in taking part in the program should call Carol Williams (256) 878-1615 OR just show up!

The City of Guntersville’s annual 4th of July fireworks show is at 9 p.m.
Directions from Jacksonville: Take Highway 431 all the way through Gadsden, Boaz, and Albertville until you get to Highway 69 in Guntersville. Take a left on Highway 69 and stay on it until you get to the Piggly Wiggly (on your left). Turn right at the red light. If you go across the water then you've gone too far. The park is on the left.
