September 16, 2003 -- Governor Bob Riley's proposed 2004 Education Trust Fund budget, posted at
http://www.budget.alabama.gov/ETF2004.pdf , eliminates funding for three
major, long-established programs at Jacksonville State University.
The governor's budget, which is being considered by lawmakers in special
session, eliminates $125,000 for the JSU-Gadsden Joe M. Ford Economic
Development Center, $100,000 for the Alabama Police Corps Program, and
$126,630 for the Aerospace Development Center. These amounts represent 100
percent of the centers' expected funding from FY 2004 ETF appropriations.
The governor's proposal also reduces JSU's overall funding by $111,772.
