Calhoun County Civic Chorale Begins Rehearsals for its Fall Season - New Members Welcomed! |
August 28, 2003 --
On Monday, September 8, 2003 at 7:15 p.m. in the Performance Center of Mason
Hall on the JSU campus, the Calhoun County Civic Chorale will begin
rehearsals for its fall season. They will be joining forces with the JSU A
Cappella Choir to perform the Christmas portion of George Friedrich Handel's
Messiah. The Chorale consists of area community members as well as JSU
students and faculty, under the direction of Dr. Patricia Corbin, JSU
Director of Choral Activities. The September 8th rehearsal is a "New Member Open House". Community members may come and participate in the rehearsal to see what the Chorale is like without further obligation. Participating singers should have voices that are able to blend with others and should have some experience reading music. The Calhoun County Civic Chorale is one of five choral ensembles of the Jacksonville State University Music Department. Each season the Chorale performs a major choral work, often with orchestra. Some of their past repertoire includes The Christmas Oratorio, by Camille Saint-Saens, the Fauré Requiem, the Duruflé Requiem, Mozart's Coronation Mass, and Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols. For further information about the Chorale or any other JSU choral ensemble, please contact Dr. Corbin in the Choral Activities office, (256) 782-5544. |
