October 30, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University's
Department of Distance Education has coordinated with Birmingham City
Schools to offer a graduate course in educational administration in the
Phillips Building in downtown Birmingham for the spring semester of 2003.
Using videoconferencing technology, JSU will broadcast Dr. Steve Nowlin's
class entitled "School Finance," or EAD 563, to several classrooms in
cities across the state, including Birmingham for the first time. The class
will meet from January 6 through April 22 on Monday evenings at 4:30 p.m.
Videoconferencing utilizes compressed video technology to send courses from
JSU's campus to remote sites where students can interact with the
instructor and classmates at other locations in real time. This technology
can be used in many ways for businesses and civic organizations as well.
For more information on this technology or on registering for this course
and others, please visit the Distance Education website at
http://distance.jsu.edu or call 800-231-5291.
