Students Awarded ASSE Scholarships |
JACKSONVILLE -- August 30, 2002 --
Two Jacksonville State University students have been awarded The American
Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) UPS Scholarships. Jennifer Williams of Oxford was one of four students nationally awarded the ASSE UPS scholarship. Jennifer, a senior in the Occupational Safety and Health Technology program, was awarded $3,700. Carlos Garcia of Anniston is the first recipient of The ASSE UPS Diversity Scholarship. Garcia, a senior in the Occupational Safety and Health Technology Program, received a $3,825 scholarship at the June ASSE annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The UPS Diversity scholarship program is designed to help minority students in the Occupational Safety and Health field. ASSE has nearly $50,000 in scholarships available for students pursuing degrees in Occupational Safety and Health. The Occupational Safety and Health profession is concerned with protecting America's workforce and the general public from injury in today's age of technological advancement. |
