Recipients of the annual Alumni of the Year and Outstanding Faculty awards
are, from left, W. E. "Duck" Connell, alumnus of the year, retired
principal in the Calhoun County School System who graduated with a B. S. in
education in 1962 and a M.S.E. in biology in 1970; Miriam Wood Haywood,
alumna of the year, retired JSU personnel director who holds a B.S. in
elementary education (1945); Emily P. Hawk, young alumna of the year, a
1996 graduate with a degree in economics and political science and a member
of the law firm of Cusimano, Keener, Roberts, Kimberly and Miles; Col.
Stanley B. Clemons, military alumnus of the year, a 1977 graduate with a B.
A. degree in political science who is assigned as the senior regular army
military advisor to the Alabama National Guard; and Dr. Barry Cox,
outstanding faculty member, head of JSU's Institute for Emergency
Preparedness and professor of chemistry.
