JACKSONVILLE -- November 6, 2001 -- Debi Holmes-Binney, author of Desert Sojourn: A Woman's Forty Days and Nights Alone, will appear on the Jacksonville State University campus on November 13, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. for a reading, talk and book signing on the 11th floor of the Houston Cole Library. Holmes appeared on Oprah Winfrey's show featuring daring survivalists, adventurers, and people who had courage to change their lives. Holmes set out on a journey to reexamine her life at a retreat in the Utah desert. From the beginning of her journal-record, where she references Walden and states that she "wished to live deliberately," to the coda where she receives her grandfather's understated approval, "I'm proud of you," this book is daring, reflective, humorous, and meditative.
