OVC head demands boycott of Ala. A&M

The recent decision of Alabama A&M to opt out of the final two years of a four-year, home-and-home contract with Jacksonville State University in order to play Tennessee State in this year's John Merritt Classic prompted Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher to request a boycott of the Huntsville university in all sports by the 11 OVC schools. A Cappella Choir Alumni Day Slated April 3
The David L. Walters Department of Music is sponsoring its annual A Cappella Choir Alumni Day in April with a theme of "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow." The daylong event begins at an 8:30 a.m. registration on Saturday, April 3 at Mason Hall. The program is open to the public and free of charge. Bayne Dobbins will be the guest conductor, and the day will end with a concert at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Anniston.
All former members of JSU's A Cappella Choir are invited to participate. Activities will be held at Mason Hall and First United Methodist Church. Dr. Harding to Deliver Sigma Tau Lecture

Dr. Pitt Harding of the JSU English faculty will give the annual Sigma Tau Delta Faculty Scholar Lecture at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, in Room 233 Stone Center. Entitled "Milton's Serpent and the Birth of Pagan Error in Book IX of PARADISE LOST," the lecture will examine Satan's temptation of Eve, showing how Milton's allusions to classical and Christian sources suggest that the fate of epic poetry hangs in the balance when Satan approaches Eve in serpent form. The public is invited.

Dr. Jackson Featured at Alabama Booksmith

Dr. Harvey H. Jackson III, professor and chair of the Department of History and Foreign Languages, will speak and sign copies of his book, Inside Alabama: A Personal History of My State, at Alabama Booksmith book store in Birmingham today. Jackson will speak at 4 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. The booksigning lasts until 6 p.m. Jackson's book tells of Alabama's history from prehistoric days up to the election of Governor Bob Riley. The Alabama Booksmith promotes Alabama authors among the reading public by hosting author signings, book clubs, and receptions. They can be contacted at 205-870-4242 for directions.
