CAST Celebrates Season with Awards Show

CAST (Community Actors Studio Theatre) invites all its friends, benefactors, patrons and volunteers to help celebrate the success of its 2006-07 season by attending the second annual Randy Awards, Saturday, June 23 at the Anniston Museum of Natural History, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Named in memory of the late Anniston playwright, Randy Hall, a founding member of CAST and director of one of its first productions, the "Randy Awards" have been created to recognize the hard work and talents of all the many volunteers who made the recent season such a success, says award show coordinator Tim Doyle.

Modeled after the "Tony" Awards of the Broadway Theatre, the "Randys" will be presented to deserving honorees during a program that also includes entertainment and catering by Pattys Restaurant. Just whom the panel of judges has selected to win each category will remain a surprise until the presentation, adds Doyle.

CAST's recently completed season of Oklahoma, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, The Trip to Bountiful, The Odd Couple, (female version) and Little Shop of Horrors brought a record number of people to the local community theatre, according to artistic director Kimberley Dobbs.

Set pieces and props from several of these shows, along with items donated by CAST supporters, will be auctioned off during a silent auction at the museum the night of June 23.

Tickets for the Randy Awards are $25 per person and can be reserved by sending a check to CAST at PO Box 185, Anniston, Alabama 36202. The deadline for reservations is June 15th. The gathering will also serve as the CAST annual business meeting.
