JSU PE Students & Softball Team Sponsor
“Olympic Day” at Spring Garden

JSU Physical Education Students and JSU Softball Team Members Hold "Olympics Day” at Spring Garden.

JSU physical education students and members of the JSU softball team coordinated “Olympics Day” at Spring Garden for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The event was led by JSU Physical Education Instructor Lori Thornburg. One purpose of the event was to give JSU students experience leading special events that promote physical activity.

Spring Garden students represented different countries in the world, and competed for ribbons and medals in specific events. “Olympic Day” served as a break from routine physical education classes, combining fun activities with physical exercise.

In addition to providing JSU physical education students a unique opportunity to learn, the event draws attention to the importance of physical activity in our state and country.

Governor Bob Riley signed a Proclamation naming May 1-7 as Physical Education and Sport Week. The Proclamation also stated that the Month of May is Physical Fitness and Sport Month. Events like “Olympic Day” at Spring Garden play a large role in getting out the message of the importance of physical activity in our society.
