On the Verge Goes On Stage June 16

Beginning June 16, the Jacksonville State University Department of Drama will present Eric Overmyer's On the Verge or The Geography of Yearning, a fast-paced adventure of the imagination that chronicles three Victorian lady explorers on their way to Terra Incognita. When their travels take a strange turn, the ladies find themselves advancing through the wilderness of time as well as space and meeting an assortment of characters along the way.

"Space: the final frontier," says Captain James T. Kirk at the start of each episode of TV's ever popular STAR TREK series. "Not so fast," suggests the three Victorian heroines at the start of the play. The journey of exploration, which takes these ladies from the jungles of Africa to the mountains of Tibet, also takes them to uncharted regions of character, language, symbol, and (perhaps most intriguing of all) time.

See this haunting, imaginative, and very funny play and then decide for yourself: what, after all, is "the final frontier?"

The play will run June 16, 17, and 18 at 7:00 and June 19 at 2:00. Tickets are as follows: adults $6.00; senior citizens & JSU personnel, $5.00; students and military, $4.00. Prepaid reservations are recommended -- call 205-782-5648 The play will be performed in the Ernest Stone Performing Arts Center, Second Stage Theatre, on the campus of Jacksonville State University.
