Miss JSU Winners

By Sherry Kughn News Bureau January 19, 2005 -- The 2005 Miss JSU believes that music should be an important part of educating children. Junior Kristian Crowe of Oxford spends her free time teaching music to children who attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Central Alabama. An aspiring music teacher, Miss Crowe won a one-year tuition scholarship to JSU and won numerous gifts and cash prizes from area merchants on Saturday night. Miss Crowe, who won the talent portion of the competition because of her vocal talent, is pursuing a degree in music education and hopes to obtain a master’s degree in vocal performance. Her goal is to work in public education or to work in a ministry that involves music. “Many parents, teachers, and administrators do not realize the impact a musical program can have on a child as he or she develops,” Miss Crowe wrote in her platform issue. “My platform, A Note of Joy, raises awareness of the importance of music education for children.” The title will automatically make Miss Crowe a candidate in the Miss Alabama contest in June. Other winners at this year’s competition were Jessica Rae Andrews of Alabaster, first runner up and Bethany Marie Joy Garrard of Boaz. She won second runner up and won the swimsuit competition.
