Joe Serviss Earns CFRE Credential

June 24, 2004 -- CFRE International of Alexandria, Virginia, awarded Jacksonville State University’s Joseph A. Serviss the certified fund raising executive (CFRE) credential after Mr. Serviss passed the organization’s national examination in April.

Mr. Serviss, JSU’s vice president for institutional advancement since 14 October 2002, passed CFRE International’s test of 225 multiple-choice questions to demonstrate knowledge in six areas: current and prospective donor research, securing the gift, relationship building, volunteer Involvement, management, and accountability.

Mr. Serviss also met eligibility requirements in the areas of education, professional practice, professional performance, and service. Candidates for certification must have 60 months of experience to apply.

CFRE International offers the only internationally-recognized baseline professional credential for philanthropic fundraising executives. Achieving the CFRE demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and the betterment of the field of fund raising.

Mr. Serviss, a Jacksonville resident, served as JSU’s director of development and executive director of the JSU Foundation for 13 years before assuming the vice president’s post.

A Sylacauga native, Mr. Serviss holds the B.S. in general business and an M.B.A., both from JSU. He is a 1964 graduate of Sylacauga High School.
