JACKSONVILLE -- June 3, 2002 --
The Alabama Council of College and University Presidents is encouraging all
friends of education in the state to vote for the proposed Constitutional
Amendment Number 1, which will establish the Education Trust Fund Rainy Day
Account.
Robert L. Potts, chair of the Council, said, "While the higher education
community wishes that the Education Trust Fund Rainy Day Account had been
more tightly drawn to guarantee that any amount taken from the Alabama
Trust Fund to prevent proration would be repaid within a five-year period,
the Alabama Council of College and University Presidents believes that this
is the best possibility of avoiding proration over the next couple of years
for our entities funded from the Education Trust Fund. Accordingly, the
Alabama Council of College and University Presidents urges voters of the
state to support this amendment for the good of our students statewide."
